Toy Event for All Ages

The 33rd annual Farm Toy Show will take place February 3, 2019 from 9-3 p.m.

1/29/18- This February, kids and adults alike will pass through the FFA Alumni’s Central Wisconsin Farm Toy Show at Marshfield High School.

Mark Vornholt, an organizer, helped start the event while he was still teaching at the high school and kept it going. “When we started it, we wanted an activity for people to get together during the winter,” he said.

It would act as a small fundraiser for the FFA, but mostly a social event for those who wanted to have something to do during the winter. He expects to see 500-700 people attend depending on the weather, a number that includes not just kids, but adults too.

“There’s quite a few people who collect farm toys,” said Vornholt. “Our goal is to get everyone to enjoy the hobby.”

Vornholt started collecting from his first birthday and attends about 25 shows per year. He said that farm toy shows are popular fundraisers for agricultural groups throughout the U.S.

While farm toy collecting isn’t as popular as it was decades ago, farmers or those with farm roots come to shows to check out the collection, as well as a fair number of kids. This year’s event will have about thirty mostly Wisconsin-based vendors selling new and old toys, concessions, farm-related crafts like farm signs, and a kid’s pedal pull.

Last year, about twenty kids tested their strength by attempting to pedal a weighted tractor. This year, the pull will be at 12:30 and kids ages 5-12 can try it for free. All participants receive a scaled toy and first place wins a trophy.

Visitors will also be able to view recreated scenes using toys, like a winter scene.
The event will be Sunday, February 4 from 9am-3pm. Admission is $3 adults, ages 10-17 $1, 9 and under are free.
