The Hilltop Pub & Grill has been a favorite in the Stevens Point area for decades. With a large menu to please many tastes and two dozen beers on tap, the restaurant remains a popular place for casual get-togethers and a drink after the UWSP basketball game. On busy nights you can be hard-pressed to find an available table, but that’s an excuse for a pre-dinner drink fresh on tap.
A signature feature of the restaurant decor is the entrance itself: diners get to experience an insider’s view – literally – of the beer-making process by passing through in the interior of an authentic wooden aging barrel as they enter. The barrel was was constructed in Milwaukee around 1891 and fittingly served the Stevens Point Brewery until 1994 (that’s amazing enough even before factoring in Prohibition and the Great Depression). It’s estimated that it aged 140,400 barrels, or 45.5 million bottles, of Point Beer.
A full menu can be viewed at this link. Burgers and fries, wraps and sandwiches, salads and appetizers, seafood and big steaks all tempt the appetite, not to mention the fish fry. Kids and those with gluten allergies will be easily able to find something to like.
Hilltop is open every day, Sunday-Thursday from 10-10 p.m., and Friday-Saturday from 10-11 p.m. It is located at 4901 Main St.
