An area staple, Dexter Drive-In in Pittsville is a worthy stop for those in the mood for a classic American meal or ice cream cone served in novelty carhop-style.
The restaurant is just a short drive from Lake Dexter County Park. Simply park near the building and a server will walk up to the window and take your order. Outdoor seating is available if you don’t want to eat from the car.
Menu options include, just to name a few, burgers like mushroom swiss, the “Dexter Double,” and bacon cheese; Hot dog, corn dog, chili dog; sandwiches like grilled cheese and reuben; fries, onion rings, broccoli and cauliflower bites; and drink options. If you have room, there are many types of ice cream available: shakes, malts, sundaes, floats, and cones.
We were impressed both visits with the delicious burgers and crispy fries, and the variety of the menu. Make this a stop next time you are in the area and would like a cross between a drive-through and a sit-down meal.
Dexter Drive-In is open April-September. Hours are 10:30-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10:30-8 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
