Roche-A-Cri State Park is located about a mile and a half north of Friendship, WI. Though small, the park is home to its coolest attraction: Native American petroglyphs and pictographs, not to mention more modern graffiti.
There’s a parking lot near to the side of the mound that hosts these markings. Since prehistoric times, this rock wall has been used for messages. See if you can spot the symbols, like the painted image of a red man.
There’s a special stand for a selfie opportunity, with this as your background.
There’s a few miles of ordinary hiking, but for the real views, make your way to the top of the mound. There are quite a few steps to climb to make it to the top (about 300), but you’ll be awarded with a pretty spectacular vantage point to take in the surrounding landscape.
Once you make it up all the stairs, take in the surroundings and look at the maps to identify the mounds in the distance.Roche-A-Cri also offers a few campsites and a few spots for a picnic. Between its history and the view from the top, make sure to put this on your bucket list.
