Camping and Recreation Options in Marathon County
Get your RVs and tents ready–camping season is upon us! In Marathon County, camping is available at Big Eau Pleine County Park, Marathon Park and Dells of the Eau Claire County Park starting May 1. There are additional options at private campgrounds: Wildlife Bar and Campgrounds (Birnamwood), SpringLake Campground (Unity), and Dorchester Park and Campground (Dorchester)
Rates vary by park and can be found at this link. Advance reservations can be made starting with an arrival date of May 4 for a minimum of two nights. Self-registration can be made for 1-14 nights. Detailed information and rules can be found at this link. Remember that all firewood must be purchased on-site to stop the spread of easily-hidden pests.
Big Eau Pleine County Park – West Unit
Address: 3301 Eau Pleine Park Rd, Mosinee, WI 54455
Number of units: 46, all electric
Notable Features: Short distance to the swimming beach and playgrounds, 18 hole disc golf course, nature trails, and a boat launch.
Facilities: Handicap site, fire rings, dump station with fresh water fill up located at the A-Frame, Pressurized jug fillers within the campground, Vault restrooms, NO flush restrooms, NO showers.
Big Eau Pleine County Park – South Unit
Address: 3301 Eau Pleine Park Rd, Mosinee, WI 54455
Number of units: 60, Sites 71 to 106 are non-electric
Notable Features: Close location to water makes this campground ideal for fishermen. Short walk to picnic areas, nature trails, and horseshoe pits.
Facilities: Fire rings, Dump station with fresh water fill up located at the A-Frame, Pressurized jug fillers within the campground, Vault restrooms, NO flush restrooms, NO showers
Marathon Park
Address: 1201 Stewart Ave, Wausau, WI 54401
Number of units: 28, 4 sites are non-electric, tent sites 9 – 12
Notable Features: 78 acres in Wausau, Amphitheater, urban campground.
Facilities: NO fires – portable grills only, Showers, Dump station with fresh water fill up, Flush restrooms available, showers in restroom building. Park includes playgrounds, tennis courts, pickleball court, outdoor dog exercise area, baseball diamonds, walking trails, basketball court, Splash Pad, concessions at Marathon Junction
Dells of the Eau Claire Park
Address: County Highway Y, Aniwa, WI 54408
Number of units: 28, 17 electric
Notable Features: Gem includes striking geologic features, high bridge, a State Scientific Area, and the Ice Age Trail.
Facilities: Rustic camping, NO showers, NO Dump station (Could use Marathon Park dump station), Gravel camping pads, Paved camping roads, Fire rings, Presserized jug fillers within the campground, Vault restrooms, no flush restrooms.
